Green Running

One of the goals of the Arbor Day Run is to make the race as eco friendly as possible. How are we going to do this you ask? Well below is information on just exactly what we are doing to make the Arbor Day Run the greenest race in North Texas:

No Water Stops!

Not exactly, we will have water available on the course but you need to remember to bring your Arbor Day Run aluminum water bottle that you got when you picked up your packet. By eliminating the cups at water stops we don’t need to supply over 5,000 paper cups thus saving a lot of trees!

No Race T-shirt with Registration!

That is right. Most of you have run several races and we are betting that you have thrown or given away your fair share of race shirts. So we replaced this benefit by providing a nice aluminum water bottle that you can reuse over and over again, and a sustainable shopping bag that you can take with you and eliminate paper and plastic bags.

Still not convinced?

Then check out the exclusive limited edition Arbor Day Run race shirt from Brooks made from organic materials and printed with Soy ink. This great shirt can be yours for a small donation of $20 to the Plano Parks Foundation.

Seeded Race Bibs

We can’t tell you how many thousands of bibs are simply thrown away each year but with the Arbor Day Run you don’t have to worry. Simply plant them in the ground, add a little water and watch the beautiful flowers grow. In addition any left over race flyers we have will be planted at the Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve to remember the inaugural Arbor Day Run!

Bring Us Your Old Running Shoes

Got a closet full of old running shoes (or any shoes for that matter) and you don’t know what to do with them? Bring them with you to the Arbor Day Run and drop them by the Shoe Bank table. If you donate we will even give you a $15 off coupon good for your next purchase of Brooks running shoes at Run On! The Shoe Bank will then clean up the shoes and distribute them to local homeless shelters.

No Pace Car

Even the Plano Police Department is helping out! So instead of a lead police car we got a lead police bicycle!

How can you help?

How about carpooling to the race? Or better yet, ride your bike to the race! Maybe you have seen some other creative things that runs have done to eliminate waste.

Send your thoughts and ideas to info@dfwruns.com and we will “recycle” them next year.
