RUN & CELEBRATION

Calling all walkers, joggers, runners and tree huggers to help us save the planet by participating in the Plano Parks Foundation’s inaugural Arbor Day Run and Celebration at 8:30 AM on Saturday, November 7th 2009 at the Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve!

The 5K/10K fun run is a great opportunity for you, your friends, coworkers and family to do something healthy together as well as help keep Plano Parks beautiful! The Arbor Day Run is more than just another race but a celebration of trees, healthy living, the outdoors and keeping Plano Green.

Along with the fun run you will be proud to participate in North Texas’ greenest race as we celebrate the planting of tree with a festival of music, fun and entertainment for everybody.

PLANO'S ARBOR DAY HISTORY
The City of Plano celebrates tree planting with an annual Arbor Day Celebration on the first Saturday of November. Fall is the ideal time of year to plant trees in North Texas giving trees the advantage of developing their root systems well before the hot weather arrives the next summer.

Free tree seedlings are available for people who attend the Arbor Day Celebration. There are also fun, creative and educational activities for kids such as making leaf necklaces, potting different tree seeds to take home, making tree ring cookies, using crayons to make leaf and bark rubbings, and Arbor Day Leaf Twister.

Plano typically celebrates Arbor Day in a different location every year. As a part of the celebration the Parks Foundation plants a tree at each location and we invite the public to lend a hand. In addition 2009 marks the city of Plano’s 20th consecutive year as a member of Tree City USA.
